Earth is composed of four distinct layers: the thin crust, the massive mantle, the liquid outer core, and the solid inner core. Each layer has unique physical and chemical properties. We know about these layers not from direct observation — the deepest borehole reaches only 12km — but from seismic wave analysis, laboratory experiments, and theoretical modelling.
